From The Deacon’s Desk for May 22, 2022
Today in our Gospel from John 14:23-29, Jesus says to his disciples, “Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make a dwelling with him.” He also says, “I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you my peace I give to you.”
On April 9th our confirmands received the sacrament of Confirmation. The same Holy Spirit who came to the Apostles over 2000 years ago came to these young people in a very special way on that day! The Holy Spirit (the Advocate) will be a lifelong friend to these young people and will guide them through the hard decisions of life. Decisions of faith and morals that sometimes trap us and make our lives difficult will be easier to live by for these young people as the Holy Spirit will dwell in their hearts in a very special way.
Perhaps it would be a good time for us to think about our own Confirmation. Are we answering the Holy Spirit’s call to holiness? Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts, our minds, and our spirits? Do we ask the Holy Spirit to help us find Jesus in ourselves and in our neighbor?
Congratulations to our recently Confirmed Christians. May we all know that the Holy Spirit is with us and will never leave us.
Peace and All Good!
