Weekly Reflections for March 27, 2022

Have you ever been on a retreat?  Most Confirmation preparation programs include a retreat; Marriage Encounter is a type of couples’ retreat; and before COVID, there were often opportunities to take part in a men’s or women’s weekend retreat.

These retreats provide a chance for those who participate to step back from their normal activities,  duties, and responsibilities and take some time to look inward.  It’s similar to going on vacation.  It takes some effort and planning to carve out the time and make the arrangements necessary to allow yourself to get away.  But once you’re there, it’s all worth it.

You may have heard it said that “God cannot be      outdone in generosity.”  I can personally attest to the truth of that statement. Every time that I have given God an extra little bit of my time by going on a retreat, I have come away with so much more.  When I clear my schedule and my mind to let God in, he is always there waiting for me with awesome gifts.  Sometimes, it is just an awareness of the depth of his love for me that is overwhelming.  Other times, it is clarity about something that I am struggling with.  Other times, it is a renewed sense of purpose or a totally new perspective.  But, always, the gift is there.

During this season of Lent, we have the opportunity to make a mini-retreat right here at the parish.  On      Sunday, April 3rd; Monday, April 4th; and Tuesday, April 5th at 7:00 P.M. there will be a prayer service and reflection led by Fr. Kevin Ewing.  You don’t have to attend all the sessions if you’re not able to do so.  Just drop by on the evenings when you can make it work.  I promise you that you’ll be glad you did.
