Jubilee

Jubilee Bulletin Jan 7-8

Well last week we were taking personal inventory of 2016 and maybe making resolutions. If we take stock of Saint Francis De Sales for the Jubilee year 2016, we learned about the many components of our parish life. Maybe learned some new things. In this space each week we heard about the rich and long history of the parish, building the Worship Center, and our designation as a parish. We began the Anniversary with installation of Relic of Saint Francis De Sales in the Worship Center at the opening celebration Mass. Over the months, we heard from the Liturgy supports for our prayer, about the Knights of Columbus, the Lady Knights, the Latino Community, the boy scouts, the various youth groups, i.e. Shadow Players, musicians, Living Stations of the Cross and Living Rosary. The description of the vast work of our outreach program, the Stewardship efforts, what a number of parishioners had to say in interviews about the sense of belonging found everywhere, the former and present pastors and deacons views of what SFDS meant to them, our Parish summer gathering–an afternoon of fellowship and the unveiling of a 25 year time capsule and burying one to be opened in 2041. Memorabilia of Jubilee were sold throughout the year. Most importantly, the monthly items about our beloved St. Francis were published here which made him more real for many of us.

We celebrated the 150th dedication of the Stone Chapel at midnight on Christmas Eve with Carols of the original time. That’s looking back. Going forward we have the closing Mass with Archbishop Lori in two weeks, Jan 21st 5pm.  All in all, a rich, ambitious, busy time of sharing, learning and love.
