From the Deacon’s Desk 10/11/2020

Dear Friends:

Today we hear from one of the more famous stories in the Gospel of Matthew 22:1-14. We find the Lord telling a story about a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He sends his servants out to collect the invited guests. They refuse to come. Then the king sends other servants to invite them again. Some ignore the invitation and go away; others attack the messengers and kill them. The king is really angry and he sends troops to destroy the murderers and destroy the city. The king then sends more servants to go into the main roads and invite the good and bad alike. The wedding banquet was now open to everyone except the man who was not dressed properly. He is forcibly removed from wedding. Why? Perhaps the man not dressed properly had not prepared his heart to receive all the goodness that God had prepared for him!

I guess the question we ask ourselves today is: are we prepared to enter the feast that God has prepared for us? Are we ready to enter the Kingdom of God? Do we turn away from goodness and forget everything God has done? Are our hearts in the right place every day of our lives? Or do we need to do some work?

Today is a good day for us to examine ourselves to see if we will be invited to the great banquet of heaven; today, at this moment would we be invited in or asked to leave?

Peace and All Good!
