REFLECTION
Corpus Christi Sunday
June 5-6, 2021
Before we begin months of Sundays in Ordinary Time, we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, also known as The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We profess one of our most essential tenants; our belief in the real presence of Jesus Christ (His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity) in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. The explanation of the subject I will leave to greater minds than mine.
I do feel qualified to speak about the importance of the Eucharist in my life. I have received communion since I was seven years old and have been an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion since I was sixteen years old. The Eucharist has been part of my life for the better part of my life.
We are reminded that each time we receive the Eucharist we become a living tabernacle of the Lord. The reception of it is like a rudder or “GPS” keeping our lives on the true path of faith.
However, have we received communion so often it can be taken for granted or lose its meaning? That is, until the pandemic removed it from our lives. Many of us felt like first communicants when we were able to partake in the Eucharist after such a long absence.
All the more fitting that the Church begins “The Year of the Eucharist” on the Feast of the Eucharist. Join the parishes of St. Francis de Sales and Prince of Peace for four days of celebration and adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Below is the schedule of events. Come let us adore Him, Jesus Christ our Lord.
