What is a Synod?

“Synod” is a Greek meaning “journeying together.” It’s an opportunity for people of faith to gather to talk and listen to one another. This isn’t just in our parish or the Archdiocese of Baltimore, but everyone in the universal Church is invited! Pope Francis has called the global Catholic Church to conduct the biggest listening session in world history to get direct feedback and hear from the people who make up the church communities, including those who may no longer be connected to the Catholic Church.

What is the aim of this Synod?

Ultimately, this process seeks to achieve three major goals:

Communion – We hope to become more united in the Catholic Church by journeying and walking this path of faith together.

Participation – We seek to encourage greater participation in the life of the church, especially in the decision-making processes.

Mission – We need to ask ourselves: Are we doing a good job? Is our mission effective? Are we meeting the signs of the times and meeting the needs of people?

¿Qué es un Sínodo?

“Sinod” es un griego que significa “viajar juntos”.”Es una oportunidad para que las personas de fe se reúnan para hablar y escucharse mutuamente. Esto no es solo en nuestra parroquia o en la Arquidiócesis de Baltimore, sino que todos en la Iglesia universal están invitados! El Papa Francisco ha llamado a la Iglesia Católica mundial a llevar a cabo la sesión de escucha más grande en la historia mundial para obtener comentarios directos y escuchar a las personas que conforman las comunidades de la iglesia, incluidas aquellas que ya no pueden estar conectadas con la Iglesia Católica.

¿Cuál es el objetivo de este Sínodo?

En última instancia, este proceso busca lograr tres objetivos principales:

Comunión – Esperamos estar más unidos en la Iglesia Católica al caminar y caminar juntos este camino de fe.

Participación – Buscamos fomentar una mayor participación en la vida de la iglesia, especialmente en los procesos de toma de decisiones.

Misión – Necesitamos preguntarnos: ¿Estamos haciendo un buen trabajo? ¿Es efectiva nuestra misión? ¿Estamos a la altura de los signos de los tiempos y de las necesidades de las personas? Nuestro objetivo es construir una base donde se aliente y sea posible comprometerse con la misión y cumplir una misión relevante.
