From the Deacon’s Desk 7/7/19

Dear Friends:

Today our Gospel reading is from Luke 10:1-12, 17-20. This reading is about Jesus appointing 72 people to assist the Apostles in getting the message to the people. Jesus tells them “The harvest is abundant but laborers are few.” Jesus instructs them to travel lightly, not to get sidetracked, and only enter where they are welcome. If they are not welcome, he instructs them to move on to a place where they will be welcome. He also tells them that he will give them everything they need to do the job. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

I think we Catholics in general are little nervous about sharing our faith. We are afraid to say the wrong thing and mislead someone or harm them and their own faith life. Many of us feel we don’t want to push our faith on other people. Actually, for the most part, Catholics have enough knowledge to share the simple truths about our faith and what it means to be a Catholic. We also might be surprised that many people have a great deal of curiosity about our faith, curious enough to listen. Don’t be afraid to share what you know. If you are asked the question and you are not sure about the answer, ask one of the Ministry Staff here at the parish. We are more than happy to help.

One thing we can all do is to live a life that is truly Christian and truly Catholic. Show the world that you follow Jesus by the way you live, the way you act, and the way you treat other people. You might find out that spreading our faith is not as hard as you think!

Peace and All Good!
