Dear Friends:
Our Gospel Mark 6:7-13 today comes on the heels of last week’s Gospel. If you remember, Jesus was amazed at the lack of faith of the people. After teaching in a few towns, Jesus decides to send out the Twelve two by two. His instruction to them is to evangelize to all they meet. However, if any refuse to listen they are to just move on. They are not to be too concerned over those who will not listen. They have been offered much, if they will not accept it is through no fault of the disciples.
Jesus encourages them not to be too concerned with worldly things but to concentrate on spreading the word he taught them. If we think about it, this is exactly what we are encouraged to do by Pope Francis. Pope Francis tells us that our church should be a MASH unit, welcoming those who need to be healed. He also says, just as Jesus said to the Twelve, that we must talk to everyone we can about the salvation Jesus offers.
I think the easiest way to do this is to live good Christian lives. We should try to have Jesus in our hearts and in our minds at all times. We must strive to live the way Jesus would want us to. I think with that mindset, the mission of evangelization will be easier than we think. Live your life, pray and ask the Lord to help you along your way. Share what you believe with those who will listen. Then leave the rest up to the Lord.
Peace and All Good!
Deacon Jim
