Summer Days
Summer is upon us once again. It might be a time that many of us start to get a little careless about our relationship with God and faith life. There are lots of barbeques, picnics, outdoor activities and other distractions that may tempt us to put our faith life on a back burner. Not indefinitely, of course, just until summer is over. I think we can all agree it takes a little bit of effort to find a Catholic church while we are on vacation. Many of our good intentions to read that religious book get lost in the most current novel.
Summertime is Ordinary Time in our liturgical life. As I have mentioned before, Ordinary Time is anything but ordinary. The scripture readings at Mass are well worth the effort to get to church even on a hot summer Sunday. You might be surprised at what you can learn during Ordinary Time.
There are many other temptations around during the summer months. If we keep up with our regular Mass attendance and continue to pray always as Paul admonishes, it will be easier to overcome the temptations that summer places before us. The little extra effort it takes to continue our relationship with God during this season will benefit us throughout the rest of the year. Have a great vacation and the best summer ever. Let’s always try to remember who gave it to us!
Peace and All Good,
Deacon Jim
